At CK Painting & Paper, we’re passionate about painting—but nothing brings us more joy than playing a part in beautiful community art. I’m proud—and honored—to have helped wash, prep, prime, and paint the base that allowed talented muralists to turn blank walls into vibrant masterpieces during this summer’s Sun Prairie Mural Fest.
Bringing Art to Life, One Wall at a Time
From June 18–25, 2025, artists from across the country transformed the north side of the Washington Mills building into a captivating gallery of murals inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s legacy Visit Sun PrairieVisit MadisonCity of Sun Prairie. As the opening canvas, the wall needed thorough cleaning, expert prep, and smooth priming to ensure the murals would shine and endure. That’s where CK Painting & Paper came in.
I was there early, washing away years of dirt and weathering and applying coats of quality latex primer that provided the perfect foundation for the muralists to layer their creativity Instagram. It may seem simple, but a smooth, primed base is the difference between a vibrant mural that lasts—and one that doesn’t.
Celebrating Community Art
The mural festival itself was spectacular. On June 26, the murals were dramatically unveiled during the Streets of Sun Prairie – Mural Fest Reveal Party with music, food trucks, and interactive art activities lighting up E. Lane Street downtown City of Sun PrairieVisit Sun Prairie.
It was more than a party—it was a celebration. Nine artists brought their unique styles, inspiration, and passion to each mural panel. Their work not only honors O’Keeffe’s artistry, but also ignites conversation, connection, and creativity throughout our community Visit Madisonhttps://www.wmtv15news.com.
Charlie’s Perspective
As someone who’s both lived and worked here, I’m always thrilled when great art brightens our streets. Being a part of this festival—especially through the humble yet essential service of preparing these walls—fills me with pride.
When local artists and residents walk past those murals every day, I’ll smile, knowing they stand atop a surface I helped ready. To me, there’s no greater honor than setting the stage for such creative expression.
